The Paleo Effect

Food, Health & Fitness, missjessamy

Hello Everybody, As I have mentioned in previous posts, I have really tried to eat more healthily. It came to my attention that, what I was eating was making me break out and feel sluggish. This change in lifestyle has been unbelievably beneficial for me even though it is such a simplistic concept. What is this concept you ask? I call it, The Paleo Effect. Paleo meaning older or ancient as in Palaeolithic. In diet terms, the way in which the caveman ate.

I chose this lifestyle as an experiment, wondering if it would change me in any way, and boy did it.

Previously to this wondrous change in lifestyle, I never ate particularly unhealthily, but there were common times I didn’t think before I ate, and therefore commonly ate the wrong things. And, by changing from that to all health food, I was skeptical as to whether it would be an easy change or if I would struggle to not turn to the ‘bad stuff’. SIDE NOTE: I don’t like calling it a diet, because I think eating healthy is a lifestyle change more than anything.

Amazingly, I have honestly noticed such a change. I have been on this lifestyle change for 13ish weeks, and my energy levels have skyrocketed and may I add, my skin is clearer and the redness has massively decreased. As I said before, my energy has increased, which helps in my motivation going through school with doing my work and everything else. I have also noticed a mood change. I have been happier within myself, and therefore happier when around others. However, as any lifestyle change, there are always slip ups. I personally, don’t care if I have a few slip ups. I am not going to rid myself of the occasional ‘unhealthy’ meal because of my healthy eating regime. I don’t believe in starving myself of life’s delicious and unhealthy foods just to be healthy forever; I find it impossible to live like that. Honestly, I do have the EXTREMELY occasional McDonalds with my friends or home cooked brownies cooked by my sister (etc…) because I enjoy them. I have stages where I am fully Paleo, and other times where I am loosely on the lifestyle. And personally, I think that is fine. I’m a teenager, and admit I go to the movies with my friends and eat bags of Chocolate and Chips. Also, some nights I’ll come home after a long day and eat rubbish. However, overall I commit to the Paleo regime in my common everyday life and within my meals and most snacks.

I am a strong believer in what I put in my body, will show on the outside. And that is why I want to commit to a healthy lifestyle now, so I can get the life long benefits. Wow, what a both reflective and somewhat informative post (hopefully…hehe). If you aren’t interested in the Paleo Effect but you still what to be healthy then go for it. I agree Paleo is somewhat of an intense and sometimes pricey change, but you can just change from maybe a white bread sandwich at lunch to a salad. Any healthy change can be beneficial to you.

Thank you for reading. I hope you enjoyed this post. I know this was a bit of a different post to what I normally have on my blog, but I really wanted to share my experiences with all of you and I hoped you liked hearing them.

Love, Jess xx

Relax, Rewind, Rethink (and Chill)

As I lay here and watch television shows that are truly full of nonsense, I finally find myself beginning to relax after one of the most stressful and draining terms of my life. It might sound unbelievably cheesy but, my favourite relaxation times occur at my Grandparents beach unit, late at night; watching rubbish television and just chilling whilst reading, drawing, texting etc.

As I said before, this term for me has been hard. With huge workloads paired with personal decisions I have had to make (future choices….); I am absolutely exhausted. Don’t get me wrong though, I love being busy. I am not one to sit and relax 24/7 , I have to be doing something. However, after working nonstop for just over 8 weeks, I think some “not doing anything evenings” are very necessary.

So, after my clear love for taking time out for a chill, I want to challenge you, yes you reading this right now. I challenge you to a chill night. Even if you are sadly not on holidays at the moment and your schedule is so busy that you want to curl up in a ball and cry, I challenge you. Now, I know how hard it is to leave your work when you have so much to do, but just a 10 minute chill out will give you time to collect your thoughts and continue. I am known to be an extreme “stresser” when it comes to heavy workloads, but leaving my work for 10 minutes gives my brain a break, and I always find with that, I come back to my work with a new mind set.

Tell me if you accept this challenge and I hope you enjoyed this post.

Love Jess xx

Good luck if you currently have a huge/stressful workload. I believe in you :)!!

Let’s Fly, Fly Away…

Hello Everybody,

I apologise for my extreme lack of posts recently, I have been absolutely unexplainably busy.

So, as the holidays are almost upon us here in Australia (YAY! WOOP WOOP!). I thought I would do a post dedicated to them. After a ridiculously busy term with no free time (literally I had no free time), I have decide to make the most of these holidays. As the title suggests, I am flying somewhere these holidays; not quite. My family and I are going away but to a resort on the beach within a driving distance. I am so excited to get away from the busyness of my home-life and have a chill few days with my family, the beach, pool and shopping. I will blog the whole adventure when it comes, but for now I thought I would show you guys a few things that I will pack in my carry bag beach and classify them as my holiday essentials.

Wake Up In The Morning Feeling Like…..

Hello Everybody,

Today I am going to teach you some simple ways to help you wake up easier and get ready in the mornings, with full energy!

Get At Least 7-9 Hours Of Sleep:

Getting enough sleep is super important if you are looking for a way to kick start you day. Make sure you get at least 7-9 hours of sleep a night; depending on your age and your sleeping habits. If you under or over sleep, it will leave you feeling tired and sluggish during the day. Getting enough sleep will allow you to wake up feeling refreshed and ready for the day. Also, make sure you get into a sleeping routine so your body clock gets used to your sleeping habits and allows you to wake up feeling rested and raring for the day.

Start Your Day With Some Exercise:

Yoga or some light exercise is a fantastic way to get your body ready for the day and kick start your metabolism. A brisk walk or run or even some yoga is a great way to begin your morning. The internet is filled with morning workout routines that will allow you to be prepared for the day and be full of energy. BONUS: Starting you day with exercise will also benefit your health and fitness.

Wash Up:

Simply having a shower or just washing your face in the morning can help you feel refreshed and prepared for the day. It will refresh your body and help you fully wake up from your restful slumber. If you do exercise in the morning, I suggest doing this afterwards.

Drink Tea Or Another Beverage:

Starting you day with a healthy Green Tea (I drink Jasmine Green Tea) or any other tea (even coffee, if you wish..) will help kick start your day. Tea will especially help nourish your body and get your metabolism going; helping your day start in an energetic and ‘ready’ way. Also, tea and coffee with caffeine will give you a little extra wake up call.

Eat A Filling And Nutritious Breakfast:

Again with the metabolism… Eating a nutritious and filling breakfast with get your metabolism raring and kick start your body into action. Eating fruit, muesli, granola, yogurt or whipping up a quick and healthy smoothie, is a super healthy way to start you day and will help you feel ready and filled until Morning Tea or even Lunch.

Quick Clean:

This isn’t everyones favourite, but I really think it helps, especially when you get home. Before you leave in the morning, make your bed and open up your curtains. It makes you feel a bit more prepared for the day as the sun is shining into your room and your room will appear to be cleaner, just because your bed it nicely made. Making your bed in the morning and opening your curtains and windows will also make the room nicer to return to in the afternoon, or whenever you get home.

That’s all for today guys! Hope you all enjoyed and learned some ways to help kick start you day.

Talk soon

Style Steal- Lily Collins

Hello Everybody!

In the recent weeks, I have found myself scrolling few various blogs and hashtags in hunt for inspiration; style wise. I was always stuck on a handful of bloggers and celebrities to find inspiration from, for my everyday makeup and general style. I found myself getting  bored of literally wearing the same playsuit everyday, along with the same hairstyle (side plait) and the same makeup- which honestly I was never happy with. As I would classify myself as young, my makeup skills haven’t fully developed and I haven’t learnt all the tricks and tips of makeup. I was doing the same look over and over, which to me, made me look powdery and not fresh faced (which I wanted to be). I watched multiple Youtube tutorials on various ways to apply makeup and tried multiple different brands, but was left with the same result. Now, whenever I asked others, they would say my makeup was well done and looked good- but honestly, I never liked how it came out.

So, back to the point of this post. Whilst I was on the hunt for new people to draw inspiration off, I found a trailer for the movie ‘Stuck In Love’. This movie has various good actors in it, including Lily Collins. I have known about Lily Collins for a while, but for some reason never looked into her style. So, I began my hashtag and blog stalking of the beautiful Lily Collins and began to absolutely fall in love with everything about her style.

Lily, is probably most commonly known (besides her acting, obviously) for her eyebrows. They are truly amazing #eyebrowgamestrong. I have totally fallen for, not only Lily’s style but her hair and makeup as well. She always looked fresh-faced and her hair always looks fabulous- along with her effortless and amazing style, which always leaves her looking beautiful (which she naturally is, obviously). So, today I thought I would share some of my favourite Lily looks with you. I have pasted the images below. Enjoy!!

Lunch With Mum

Recently, I went out to lunch with my mum whilst we went shopping. We went to a café called ‘Spoon’ which I had been to before and I love it. We had a amazing lunch which I took some photos of, so I thought I would share my lunch adventure with you.

Mum: English Breakfast Tea. Does anyone else love this mug?- I am in love with it!

Me: Mango & Coconut Smoothie. Soooo delicious, may I add.. Also, on top of this smoothie was yoghurt sorbet- I thought it sounded really weird but it was amazing… trust me. Try it if you can!

Mum & I: Salt & Pepper Calamari Salad. This salad was healthy and super fresh and yummy.

Mum & I: Sweet Potato Fries. These have been my families obsession recently. We have had restaurant ones and made our own, and I can say, these were the best ones- and the most unhealthy ones.. I think.. Whoops!!

So, that’s it guys. This was a simple post, but I will try to post more in the coming days and weeks. I am on holidays at the moment and I have been super busy sleeping and seeing family and friends. But, I really want to blog more, so I shall commit! Thank you all so much for reading and (hopefully) liking my blog. Talk super soon!

Dairy No More..?

Food, Health & Fitness, missjessamy

Hello Everybody,

Recently, I have been absolutely flat out with exams and assingments- so my diet hasn’t been great. However, I recently made a change that I think has really benefited me and that is, cutting our dairy (mainly milk) from my diet.

Personally, I don’t like milk. The only time I would ever drink it was if if was in tea or a Starbucks Frappuccino. I do not like the flavour on its own. A few months ago, I made the switch to Almond Milk- which I really like. As Almonds are one of my favourite foods, the transition was issue-less. So I thought… It turned out that I actually drank a lot more milk then I thought I did. I’d simply forgotten that in these colder months here in Oz, it doesn’t take much to heat up a glass of full cream milk and add some hot chocolate powder in it for a nice toasty drink. But for some reason, whether it be the health benefits or just because I didn’t like normal milk on its own, I real wanted to make a permanent change to this Almond Milk, which I had come to like so much.

If you don’t know or guess. Almond Milk does have a flavour to it, and does flavour what ever it is mixed or put into e.g Smoothies or Hot Chocolates.

Anyways, over the next couple of weeks, I decided to start making a change to replace the drinks I had, that contained full cream milk to now contain almond milk. I started adding it to my smoothies for my breakfast, my hot chocolate or warmed milk with cinnamon at night and honestly, I have noticed a big change. Not only am I less bloated and no more left with a heavy feeling after drinking tea or hot chocolate, my blemishes and redness on my face have decreased dramatically. Now, I will be honest with you all, I didn’t/don’t have badly blemished skin. I am quite lucky in the fact that I only get a few. But still they are a major self-confidence issue for me. Also, I am very pale, so I have lots of redness on my face 24/7. Almond Milk though, has really helped these issues.

Now, if you are reading this and are still sceptical, my best friend ( had the same results- only better then mine. From her most recent post, ‘Vegan Is Fab’ she comments on the benefits her non dairy life has given her, “Mum assumed it (dairy products) was making my skin bad and I always felt sick after having it so I just gave it up. Now, it’s almond milk in smoothies, coconut based yoghurt and ice-cream and no cheese.” Head over to her blog to read the full post! I can say her skin is amazing now, since coming off dairy.

I’m not saying that everyone in the world, that has blemishes, should come off dairy. I am just saying that if has worked for both myself and my best friend. And, if you are concerned for your skin or find you feel yuck are having milk or any dairy product, I would say give it a go. Remember, I am no doctor or expert, I am just telling you my experiences with the change of dairy consumption.
